Curriculum

Aistear The framework for early learning. It is based around 4 themes: identity and belonging, communications, exploring and thinking and well being.
Siolta The national quality framework for early childhood education in Ireland.

 

The Staff at First Friends support education through play. 
We offer a wide range of activities which are fun and age appropriate. Sand and water play, play dough, home corner, dress up, library, painting and arts and crafts to name but a few. 

Outside
We also have a soft tiled outdoor area with a slide, hopper balls, ride in tractors and many more toys. 
We would try to get out as many days as possible so please ensure that your child is dressed in accordance to the weather. Warm coat on cold days and sunscreen on the hot sunny days.

Snack/Lunch
We will provide a snack in the school at approx 10am every day.

Toast and fruit. Crackers, cheese and fruit. Toast and fruit. Crackers, cheese and fruit. Toast and fruit.

 

As the children have a snack in the morning and are only here for 3 hours, you will need to send a small lunch. We try to promote healthy eating in the school so crisps, sweets and chocolate bars are not allowed. Try to keep your child's lunch as varied as possible. 
Please send a drink for your child. Water will be provided here all day. 

Clothes
Please send in a full change of clothes for your child and label the bag clearly and hang it on your childs peg. You will need to check your child's spare clothes regularly. 

Minimum Age
2 years 6 months. 

Policies and procedures
There is a hard copy on the notice board inside the front door. If you would like a copy please give me your email address. 

Sample day plan
Free play: The children choose who and what they want to play with. 
Snack: Provied by the school
Greeting time: Songs/rhymes/story/news etc
Work time: Planned activity, eg - arts and crafts, growing seeds, construction
Lunch time: Lunch provided by the parents
Free play/outside: The children play with who and what they want.

ECCE scheme (free playschool year)
3 hours per day: 9.15am - 12.15pm, 5 days a week for 38 weeks. 

We offer one end of year school tour normally to Funster in Castlebar. The price of this tour is 10-12 euro (alternative programme based activities will be provided to ECCE children not availing of this option). 

Fees will be gone through in detail by the committee on the parent info night.
